{DIY} Mini Witch Hat Trick-or-Treat Piñata • Tutorial and Free Printables

Here is a festive Halloween craft I put together for our latest MOPS meeting; DIY Mini Witch Hat Trick-or-Treat Piñatas! The best part of these, they're reusable!
Mini Witch Hat Pinata
I re-created this craft from tutorials I found on Pinterest by Parents and Studio DIY.  I modified them a bit to make the craft more user friendly and added some of my own Halloween charm by creating the witch hat banner and pull tag.  To download the pinata template and free printables, follow my complete tutorial.

Supplies:

Black card stock - (1) 12" x 12" sheet or (2) 8.5" x 11" sheets. I used this paper available at any craft store or at Amazon.
Piñata template available here to download.
Pull tag and hat banner printables available here to download.
10" of baker's twine
6" of baker's twine
Embroidery needle
34" of black crepe party streamers
Tape
Glue gun
Glue stick
Scissors
Candy/treats

Assembly Instructions:

1.  Take 10" piece of twine and fold in half. Make a double knot at the ends. This will be the hanger for the top of the hat. Center hanger on the outside edge of the black half circle (hat) and tape underneath the knot.
2.  With your hands, shape the half circle into a cone using the 4" black circle (hat brim) as a guide. You want to make sure the cone diameter is smaller than the brim and the tip of is small enough to keep the twine knot inside.
3. Secure cone with a piece of tape.

4.  Apply hot glue around the bottom of hat and press down firmly to hat brim for a secure hold.
5.  Take 6" piece of twine, make a double knot at one end and thread other end through embroidery needle. Poke a hole through the center of 2.75" black circle with needle and sew twine through, stopping at knot.
6.  Tape the opposite end of twine to the center of smaller 2.375" black circle.
7.  Glue "Boo!" tags to both sides of smaller circle. Set aside.

8.  Fold 34" of crepe streamer into thirds and cut 1/4" slits to create the fringe for the witch's hat.
9.  Starting at the bottom of hat, glue crepe fringe to the outside of hat with glue stick. Wrap around until you reach top of hat, adding more glue where necessary.

10.  Take cut-out "Trick-or-Treat" banner and fold edges in on both sides.
11.  Apply glue to back side of outside edges of banner.
12.  Glue to witch's hat.

13.  Fill inside of witch's hat with candy and other fun treats. I used mini fun-size candy bars and rings from the Dollar Tree. *Tip, insert all candy vertically inside hat so it will fall out easier when tag is pulled.
14.  Slightly squeeze larger circle of pull tag into the bottom of hat brim.
15. Pull so circle lays flat.

Now you are finished! Hang from the doorway, a branch or from your finger. Pull the "Boo!" tag and watch the treats fall out of the pinata! Both young ones and adults are sure to enjoy the surprise inside!
