Sometimes you come across a great deal on craft supplies that are too good to pass up! So was the case regarding the latest craft we did at MOPS. While cruising the aisles at Michael's, I saw a bunch of laser cut wood frames on mega blow-out at 80% off. I just had to grab them! Throw in a coupon for an additional 20% off and you are looking at one happy crafty lady! I grabbed all the frames I could, about 60 in total, and worried about what craft I would do later.

After some brainstorming I came up with the idea to feature this year's MOPS theme, "Be You Bravely" in the frames. Using twine from the Dollar Tree, my own scrap fabric, a stapler, mini clothespins and muslin fabric, I created this fun motivational frame craft for the moms to assemble. See below for the complete tutorial.

Materials:

(1) blank 4" x 6" laser cut wood frame
(3) 1" x 21" strips of cotton fabric, torn for a shabby-chic look. I like using three different patterns for a very cool effect!
(1) 7.5" length of jute twine
(2) mini clothespins
(1) safety pin
(1) 3.25" x 3.25" square of muslin fabric
(1) gold metallic Sharpie
white spray paint

Assembly Instructions:

1.  Remove stickers from frames. (I had to soak these for a couple of minutes with Goo Gone.)
2.  Spray paint frames and allow to dry.

3.  Cut or tear three strips of 1" x 21" fabric.
4.  Tie the three strips of fabric together with one large knot.

5. Attach safety pin through knot and secure to your pants/tablecloth/pillow and braid fabric together.
6.  Tie another knot at the end of your braid and trim ends to be even.

7.  Tie a knot on each end of twine
8.  Open stapler to the flat position and staple the fabric hanger to the back of frame underneath knot.
9.  Staple twine to back of frame before each knot.

10.  Hand write your inspirational message on your muslin square with the gold Sharpie.
My creative activities partner and I hand wrote over 60 of these "be brave" fabric squares!

11.  Secure fabric square to twine with two mini clothespins.

This craft was a great success. It was fun to see the different fabric combinations the ladies came up with and how they all turned out so beautiful and unique!

Just one of the many beautiful frames we created!

  1. Hello, for the motivational frame art - where did you purchase the frames from?
